| Thallus to 10 cm wide, leaden grey, sometimes yellowish grey to bluish black. Lobes 1–7 mm wide, broadly flabellate or cuneate, adjacent or imbricate, usually sparsely branched, lobulate, flat or slightly convex; apices round with deflexed margins. Upper surface epruinose, isidiate. Isidia mainly laminal, sparse to dense, terete, knob-like when young, often becoming coralloid-branched with age, concolorous with thallus or darker. Lower surface pale to black. Rhizines pale to black. Apothecia rather rare, to 3 mm wide, pale yellow to black. Ascospores fusiform or ellipsoidal, 7–13 × 3–5 µm. | ||
| Occurs in W.A., N.T., Qld, N.S.W., A.C.T., Vic. and Tas. A widely distributed species in tropical and subtropical parts of the world. Grows on bark and wood, rarely on leaves, of various trees in rainforest, mangrove communities and sclerophyllous forest. Also on siliceous rocks and soil in eucalypt woodland and open grassland. | ||
